Like episode Two, episode Three of Four also looks at how these feudal states depended entirely on Europe so that, by the time of the Third Crusade in 1191, most of them were recaptured by the great Muslim leader Salah Ed-Din. His English adversary, Richard I of England, was able to do no more than negotiate access for Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem.
